Greenjets Secures £50K Grant to Strengthen Generative AI-Led
E-Propulsion Design Capability

Milton Keynes, UK. 18th July 2023:

Greenjets Ltd, in collaboration with the Whittle Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, has been awarded a £50K grant for a 6-month feasibility study named DATA. This project aims to develop an AI-driven design tool for e-propulsors in the aviation sector, specifically focusing on Advanced Air Mobility (drones, air taxis & electric commuter aircraft). The project is funded by Innovate UK’s flagship Bridge AI programme.

DATA, an acronym for Drone Design using AI for Transport Applications, will generate an extensive e-propulsor dataset that combines input requirements, design configurations, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) data and experimental results. This dataset will power Greenjets' proprietary design tool, BladeRunner, enabling the rapid development of future products.

Cambridge University’s Whittle Lab is a key partner in this project and has developed a novel methodology that combines rapid testing and physical parameterization. This approach not only aligns with the project's vision but, when successfully implemented, will facilitate AI-driven decision-making, significantly reducing design time and enabling Greenjets to scale production efficiently to meet customer requirements.

Rahmat Pariyan, Head of Analysis at Greenjets, stated, "Generative AI-led design has always been on our roadmap, but its effectiveness depends on the quality of the training data. With this project, we are embarking on building the most comprehensive e-propulsion dataset in the world."

Dr. James Taylor, Assistant Professor at the Whittle Laboratory, said, "This project is hugely exciting as it brings years of experience in AI driven turbomachinery research into the exciting field of e-propulsion."
